Leap for Joy!

Today is February 29th, Leap Year Day!
That means that each of us has an extra 24 hours or 1440 minutes this month. How do you plan to spend your bonus time? Helping others? Making a difference? Spending time with your family, playing with your kids, or enjoying your friends?

Why an extra day? In short, our year is measured by how long it takes the earth to go around the sun. It doesn't take 365 days but 365 1/4 days. Actually .... 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 46 seconds. So, every four years we effectively lose a day. To prevent drift in our calendar we adjust the four-year period to be 4,160 days.

Wow, I can't believe 7 years have gone by! We didn't even have a digital camera, so these pictures were scanned for Ryan's baptism. I hope you have a great time at your party on Saturday. Today has been a crazy day, but I've thought of you all day. She had a substitute teacher today, so we'll bring cupcakes to her class tomorrow. I Love You!!!!

My Amaryllis Plant

I received an Amaryllis bulb kit for Christmas from my mother-in-law. It is growing and is very beautiful!! There are 3 flowers on it. There was some neat history on the package, I'd like to share: "Great Britain's Queen Anne was particularly fond of these elegant trumpet-shaped flowers. So enamored that she wove patterns of its blossom into royal carpets, tapestries and dresses. From olden times to the present, the Amaryllis has been embraced around the world for the dashing color it brings to a long, cold winter."

Total Lunar Eclipse

We watched the Lunar eclipse the other night. It was neat to see the changes every few minutes. I was on my way out to an Enrichment activity as it was happening. The pictures aren't great, but give you an idea. Hopefully you got to see it.

Déjà vu

Todd took a picture of the kids the other night. After I looked at it, I said,"I've seen that before" Déjà vu
The first picture was taken in October 2004, before going to R's soccer(Swords) game. The kids love that rocking horse. Since K didn't know how to rock yet, they would sit on either side of her and rock it.
It was cuter back then, now the biggest is sitting in the middle. Memories!!

Crazy Hair Day!

The kids had crazy hair day at school. Todd bought some color hair spray last night and they had fun with it this morning. R wanted green and B wanted blue with sparkles. Then Todd sprayed his hair too and met B and R for lunch. He did blue and green stripes. He is such a BIG kid! K wants to do her hair too, when we pick up the kids. She wants to look like B.

The kids had fun at their Valentine parties yesterday. R's class made yummy fruit cookies (a sugar cookie with frosting and fresh fruit) my favorite was the raspberries. Todd and I went to lunch at Red Lobster. The shrimp was so delicious. It was nice to go out without any kids. Todd just got back from a long trip. My friend took K to ballet and then for a play date at her house. She had a great time! Thanks Thea!

Princess Wishes - Disney on Ice

I took the girls to see the Princesses on Ice. They had a wonderful time, it went too fast. We were invited to go with a girl from K's preschool class. They also invited another friend too. We went to Applebees for dinner and then enjoyed the show. They really liked when the dragon from Sleeping Beauty's story blew out fire on the ice. It was really neat! K's favorite was Ariel and B's favorite was Cinderella. It was a late night, but the girls did well. It was so much fun, even for the moms.

Ryan's Report

R's 3rd grade class had to read a book and then make a poster mask of their character. So they became the character as they told their report. He read a book named "Brian's Hunt". It's the 5th book in a series. The boy was in a plane crash when he was 13 years old and has lived in the wilderness for 3 years. A bear killed some people and he went after it with a bow and arrow. So, R made his hair out of brown yarn, we made a red T-shirt out of material(he cut a little off the shoulder) as if the bear ripped it off and then he drew scratch marks. We made a bow and arrow. He thinks he did well on the report, but no grade yet. It was fun to work on it together. Good job!!

Our New Prophet

The church announced our new prophet today, Thomas S. Monson. He is the 16th president of the church. I'm excited to watch him go forth. He has a special place in his heart for the elderly. He has been strong from very young, he reminds me of Joseph Smith. It was neat to watch the news conference this morning and to hear of the love his counselors have for him. He loves all kinds of ice cream, just like me. I just gave my lesson in R.S. about the Master Bridge Builder, which Pres. Monson gave in January's Ensign. It was a great message he shared. I'm excited for the new presidency, they seem so young and fresh. I can't wait to hear them speak at general conference in April. I will deeply miss and remember all the wonderful things President Hinckley did for the church. Especially for the Sacramento Temple.

We went to pack meeting last week and they had their annual Pinewood Derby race. It was a lot of fun to watch the boys get excited about their car. They looked really nice this year. I even helped Ryan paint his and get the wheels on. Todd was out of town. R was not in the finals, he was bummed. His friend Robert from school came with us. He was having a great time seeing all his friends from school. At the end Ryan and Robert raced this years against last years car and this years won. So, I guess we are getting better at this.

100th Day of School

B's 1st grade class celebrated the 100th day of school today. They each got to bring in their favorite snack (100) and place them in egg cartons by 10's and then 5's. They are working on counting by multiples and also using money. It was a great project. Then they all went to each others desk to take 5 of what that person brought. So at the end, they had 100 items of different snacks from each class mate. It was a lot of fun! K came with me to the project. They got to bring a teddy bear to class and it sat on their desk all day. They also had a Teddy Bear Picnic in the classroom during lunch. I'm glad I got to go, B didn't want me to leave. She thought I was staying all day.

There is a student in Ryan's class that was diagnosed with Leukemia in October. R's class along with the Woodcreek High School students put together a Magical Musical Memories concert. All the money went to Nathan and his family to help with medical bills. They earned over 3000 dollars, I couldn't believe it. It is so wonderful to see all the support they got. It was a very fun evening to watch all the performances. The students did a great job! The kids had a great time(me too!) We got to sit right behind him and his family. I pray that he will recover from this quickly and get to come back to school with his twin brother and all his friends. Thanks to everyone who came.

Barbie look A-Like

B wanted me to do her hair for church last week. She brought me her Barbie doll and said, "I want it look like this" I told her that Barbie's have a lot more hair than her, thicker and fuller. I couldn't guarantee anything, but I'd try. She looked pretty happy afterwards, so I guess I did well. She is holding the doll so you can see my example. She wanted me to spray it, so it would last. She is growing up so fast!

Super Star

K got to be super star at preschool last week. She was being a good listener and helped to clean up. She was so excited!!!
